It looks like we’re in for a long haul on this one. Today, Booz Allen Hamilton, former employer of Edward Snowden released a statement letting the world know that the elusive whistle-blower has officially been terminated from his position with the contracting giant. Snowden’s whereabouts are unknown, for the time being, and the media is comically chasing his tail. What great fun! I can’t wait for the tell-all book…
This whole situation has brought out commentary from all over the politically realm. Seriously, you have people like Michael Moore and Glenn Beck on the same side. ON THE SAME SIDE. What has this world come to? Anyone who regularly checks Facebook will see posts from libertarians, liberals, and conservatives proclaiming the same thing: Big Brother will not be tolerated (says the little guy on the ground with his ear still shoved against a Verizon phone). Are we really up in arms about this? Or is this the crisis du jour?
I believe that what Snowden wanted to do is cloaked in good intentions. His execution, however, is shaky, at best. Not being privy to all kinds of secret information that apparently one half of Booz Allen employees may be privy to, I can’t tell you for certain what is necessary for national security, and what is not. However, I’m enjoying the debate that the debacle is creating.
Gets you thinking right? Gets the terrorists thinking too. Is that important?
So here we have it; what we’ve always thought to be true is true. Big Brother is watching, but is that necessarily a bad thing? Were civil liberties infringed upon? Or is this another political cat-fight that will result in (drumroll)….absolutely nothing changing. The U.S. Government does what the U.S. Government wants to do, apparently.
Are you willing to hand your “share everything” plan over for the greater good? Or do you think that some things are better left unheard?
Even more importantly, do you really believe that the government has been listening to all your late night chats on those 900 numbers? Let’s be honest here. What are we losing?
These are my questions to you, free bird Americans. What are you willing to give up for what in return? Is this hoopla important, or do you think that we are too lazy to care about this tomorrow?
