Alimony doesn’t always have to be a dirty word. But if it is to you, consider finding a way to add a more positive association to it. How about attaching it to a bottle of wine from a Napa Valley producer who may have had some experience on the wrong end of a marriage? Luckily, you can enjoy his Alimony anytime you want, without the messy divorce.
Loomis Estate Vineyards is a premier Rhône-style winery in Napa Valley, and if you’re in the market for a Rhône-inspired California blend, check out Loomis’ Alimony “Grand Cuvée” red.

A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Counoise, this powerful wine is chock full of berry richness and spice, while also bringing the heat at 15.6% alcohol. Fully balanced with some sticky tannins and welcomed acidity to complete the structure. Like velvet on the finish, but not without leaving a mouth full of ripe cherry and light black pepper flavors lingering behind.
Alimony is a non-vintage, or multi-vintage wine, meaning it is a blend of grapes from different years– including six clones of Syrah, three of the Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, and Counoise. With an SRP of $45, it’s a nice value for the full-bodied California wine (that isn’t Cabernet) you’ll have in your glass. Only 150 cases produced, so don’t just sit around waiting for your Alimony to arrive.
